Why do you need to Sketch

Sketching gives people the freedom to consider every wild idea without the fear of making a mistake. This is a creative, generative process that can not only discover great ideas but create better teamwork. With lots of ideas on the table teams down into fuller, more amazing decisions in our products.

Level One / First Year Students

Product Photography – Hours: 20

 

Student Goals:
Students will be introduced to the concepts of SLR camera operations and the use of the composition in Photography

Purpose:
Basic photography skills are so important in today’s digital design world. Whether its a photo for a website or a product shot for an advertisement. Photography is a must-have skill in today's design world.

Student Objectives:
By June, the Visual Communications students, along with lectures, guided practices, multiple projects and various technique examples, the students will be able to set up and complete a studio photoshoot with little or no assistance, as documented in their portfolio.

 

Tasks: PA800 - DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY

606 - Create a design for a package.

607 - Utilize basic knowledge of printing processes.

608 - Design promotional materials.

Level Two / Second Year Students

Adobe InDesign – Hours: 20
Adobe 2/3

 

Student Goals:
Students will use the Adobe InDesign software to create pieces related to the art and design field.

Purpose:
Adobe Photoshop is one three software pieces every student must know.

Student Objectives:

Provided with multiple lectures, examples, study guides, guided practices, and student resources, the students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of computer publication layout design software (Adobe InDesign) by producing a completed digital print design project that shows the use of 8 or more tools. (i.e.; type tool, path tool, image import, etc.)


Tasks:

601 - Research the history of advertising design.

602 - Apply elements and principles of design.

603 - Interpret a creative or design brief.

604 - Produce thumbnails, roughs and comprehensive.

Level Three / Third Year Students

3Pt Perspective – Hours: 20

 

Student Goals:
Students will draw in 3-Point Perspective

Purpose:
Drawing with 1, 2 & 3 Point Perspective is a skill that every art student must understand and be able to demonstrate.

Student Objectives:
After completion of the lecture and the class exercises, the students will develop a final 3-Point Perspective drawing that shows all the percentages of a greyscale, from 100% white to 100% black, with all of the shapes and lines built up by contrast to a finished drawing of portfolio level.


Tasks:

301 - Draw objects using linear perspective.

302 - Design basic geometric and organic forms showing texture and tone.
307 - Create value with the use of layering.
