Candle or Light Source

Student Objectives:

Provided with multiple lectures, examples, study guides, guided practices, and student resources, the students will be able to an open-end assignment and complete a portfolio piece, by deciding what technique and medium to use with little or no assistance, as documented in their portfolio.

Concept:

All projects need to show a complete grayscale, even if the project uses color there will still be a tonal value from 100% black to 100% white.

This should be a completed rendering that would be shown as a finished clean piece of work, simply put, a portfolio piece! The difference about these portfolio pieces, is you can use any medium you choose i.e.; traditional, digital or Photography and video.

Instructions:

Candle or Light Source:

Set up a still life that has a strong light source
- Candle, flashlight, small light bulbs
- The major part of the drawing needs to be dark

Pay attention to how the light source effects hot spots and shadows, The drawing will only work if it has full grey value and a strong bright white area.
