Student Objectives:

Provided with multiple lectures, examples, study guides, guided practices, and student resources, the students will be able to an open-end assignment and complete a portfolio piece, by deciding what technique and medium to use with little or no assistance, as documented in their portfolio.

Concept:

All projects need to show a complete grayscale, even if the project uses color there will still be a tonal value from 100% black to 100% white.

This should be a completed rendering that would be shown as a finished clean piece of work, simply put, a portfolio piece! The difference about these portfolio pieces, is you can use any medium you choose i.e.; traditional, digital or Photography and video.

Instructions:

Playing with the boundaries between the visual and the musical is an old game. The Pythagoreans were probably the first westerners at it when they declared: "The eyes are made for astronomy, the ears for harmony, and these are sister sciences." Art of the Ear and art for the eye, its all art! There is a strong connection between music and visual art. They both excite the senses and can evoke emotions. Artist have been exploring this connections for years from Kandinsky listening to music and letting the rhythm influence his painting, to artists today creating illustrations of lyrics.

Fined the lyrics to a song that you like and develop an illustration that would go along with the song

- this may be an opportunity to try a different medium, i.e. watercolor, markers, colored pencils.
