Students must be prepared to make a major commitment. It is our assumption that students entering the program are here to lay a foundation for a career in a design field and will be required to meet rigorous and stringent standards. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are required as is the ability to read and analyze. Serious students will find that the program will provide them with an excellent opportunity to develop the skills necessary to succeed in the job market or advance in education. _Most of the students graduating from the program _continue their education.

Perspective Drawing
Traditional 2/3

Drawing in 2pt Perspective:

Drawing in 2pt perspective gives you a lot more options for structural drawing. 2pt perspective gives you much larger optical view as if you were looking at a full cityscape instead of just one street. Although this seems more difficult, the principles are much the same as 1pt perspective. Background / Overview:In this project the student will use 2pt perspective to design their own restaurant. The final project drawing should be finished to a level that you could present it to a bank or a lender to get the true feeling and design idea of the restaurant.

Requirements:
1. Horizontal Layout with the supplied paper
2. Image must show some form of structure-  (building, trees, mountains, etc)
3.  Need to be able to identify your horizon line
4. Image must show depth in the image - perspective
5. Final drawing needs to completed in colored pencils

Project goals:
1. Full value scale  - light to dark shades of color
2. Create interest for the eye
3.  Do something that interests you
4. Portfolio Piece

HOMEWORK:

Year Two, Project Overview:

- Jean-Michel Basquiat emerged from the "Punk" scene in New York as a gritty, street-smart graffiti artist who successfully crossed over from his "downtown" origins to the international art gallery circuit. In a few fast-paced years, Basquiat swiftly rose to become one of the most celebrated, and possibly most commercially exploited American "naif" painters of the widely celebrated Neo-Expressionism art movement.

Experimental Project:
Project Name: Pen & Ink Tree/Flower

Project Overview: When drawn with knowledge, a great ink drawing carries a certain evocative power that stems from the cleanliness of the finished work. However, that same cleanliness can also leave you vulnerable because high contrast line drawings give you nowhere to hide. Every line communicates knowledge and power or timidity and uncertainty. It’s a fine line between one and the other, no pun intended. Here are some of my techniques for making ink drawing more approachable and less nerve-racking.
