Let's Get Started - Hand-Scapes
Students will draw a Zendoodle
After completion of the lecture and the class exercises, the students will develop a drawing that shows all the percentages of a greyscale, from 100% white to 100% black, with all of the shapes and lines built up by contrast to a finished drawing of portfolio level.
300 - HAND DRAWING AND ILLUSTRATION
Drawing From Observation:
302 - Draw basic geometric and organic forms showing texture and tone.
305 - Draw from direct observation.
307 - Create valve with the use of layering.
Third Year Project:
Objectives - Students will:
Draw hands from life - careful observation
Combine realistic hand drawing in fantasy "scape"
Utilize elements of design - show good composition skills/principles of design - value shading
Demonstrate careful drawing from observation.
Introduce Surreal/Fantasy art
They have a max of 3 days to come up with ideas for an environment in which to place drawing of their hands that:
Must portray the hand as a prominent, totally unusual & unexpected ‘character’ in its environment. Show hands interacting w/that environment… passively, or actively.
They execute the finish... This phase from sketch to final includes lessons in how to transfer a drawing with lightbox, or graphite sheet, how to selectively keep or discard elements of a sketch, how to size up or down for a final... etc...
Students must be prepared to make a major commitment. It is our assumption that students entering the program are here to lay a foundation for a career in a design field and will be required to meet rigorous and stringent standards. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are required as is the ability to read and analyze. Serious students will find that the program will provide them with an excellent opportunity to develop the skills necessary to succeed in the job market or advance in education.
