Students must be prepared to make a major commitment. It is our assumption that students entering the program are here to lay a foundation for a career in a design field and will be required to meet rigorous and stringent standards. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are required as is the ability to read and analyze. Serious students will find that the program will provide them with an excellent opportunity to develop the skills necessary to succeed in the job market or advance in education. _Most of the students graduating from the program _continue their education.

Game Design - Marking Period One

Section One: Game Design Concept One – Your Choice

In this section you will write down your creative ideas or game concept. The structure should be written as if you were going to submit the game idea to gaming company such as EASports, Activision, XBOX, etc.

Section Two: 2 Main Character Designs and One Landscape

Whatever game you decide to design there will need to be at least a few characters. It is your game design so what will they look like. Are the human like or are they cartoons. In the end, you will use these character design to build your live action play example screenshots and for the packaging design. So you may want to pose them in some kind of action concept.

Section Three: 2 Live Action View Points

Topic:

Using the character designs from section 2, place your characters in a game play situation. You need to design all the effects that might be seen when you are playing the game. Are there power up symbols, maps, other views, etc. All of these details should be part of the screenshot. These examples would show the gaming companies what the idea of the game is and what it will look like when it is being played.

Section Four: Logo Design, Packaging & Game Poster

Topic:

In this section, you will design the logo and the box design that the game will come in. The game design should have a pull out jacket that folds down. It should at least be two sided with some simple rules on it. The Game poster should be 17” x  11” Vertical layout. Take a look at what some of the other game posters look like, what do they have on them, logos, game screenshots, game character, etc.
