Students must be prepared to make a major commitment. It is our assumption that students entering the program are here to lay a foundation for a career in a design field and will be required to meet rigorous and stringent standards. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are required as is the ability to read and analyze. Serious students will find that the program will provide them with an excellent opportunity to develop the skills necessary to succeed in the job market or advance in education. _Most of the students graduating from the program _continue their education.

Concept and design is a critical part the design world, whether it is an illustration for a children’s book or an advertisement. Students tend to oversee the potential for this kind of thinking and development. Good habits in creative development are a key to success.

Project #1:
1. Develop a list of 20 Different Names for your Coffee Company.
2. Take 2 of the names that you would like to use and design 5 different logos for each of the names
3. Choose the logo that you plan on using for your overall campaign and develop a Corporate Identity Package.

Business Card:
2” x 3-1/2” or 3.5” - Vertical or Horizontal
This is a standard size for a business card but you may find a size or design that may be different.

The design is very important for this part of the project because the center of the page must have plenty of room for text or information written for the company.

Experimental Project:
Project Name: Stained Glass

Project Overview:

Oil Pastels are truly a unique medium, and it can take some practice to learn to work with them.  Don’t expect greatness right away.  You might make an intention to make your first few oil pastel pieces as learning experiences.

Very often the way you might expect colored pencils to work or oil paint to work, or even soft pastels will work, isn’t going to be the same with oil pastels.  So it takes a little bit of practice, to begin with, just to get familiar with the ins and outs of how oil pastels are to be used.

I think most beginners will pretty quickly pick up different techniques for oil pastels on their own, however, it just takes some practice at first and getting used to how the medium works.
